Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How is each pair packaged, and how do I know which record it came from?
A: Each pair comes on a branded reVinyled card, with the artist, song, and record label printed on the back, so you always know exactly which record it came from.
Q: Are these comfortable to wear, even the bigger styles?
A: Surprisingly, yes! Vinyl is lighter than it looks, so even the bold, statement sized pairs feel like nothing. I wear mine every single day, running errands, dressing up jeans and a t shirt, whatever the day calls for, and you'll forget you're even wearing them until someone compliments you. They're also my go to for dancing at concerts or out with friends. Just make sure the earring backs are on tight so nothing goes flying when you're whipping your head around. Bonus: instant conversation starter.
Q: What type of ear wires/posts do you use? Do you offer clip-ons?
A: All ear wires and stud posts are surgical grade stainless steel. Clip-on options are available by request.
Q: How do I care for my vinyl earrings?
A: They're uncoated, raw vinyl, so a little care goes a long way. Keep them out of extended direct sunlight, avoid leaving them by a window or in a hot car, especially in summer, and away from perfume, hair dye, lotion, and other products. For a quick shine, a soft eyeglass cleaning wipe works great.
Q: Why do labels and records look different from pair to pair?
A: Every record is unique. Even the same label can show lighter or darker shades, fading, or print variations from one pressing to the next. You may also see marks of previously loved music, like old handwriting or DJ markings on the label itself. None of it is a flaw. It's part of that specific record's history, and it's exactly what makes each pair one of a kind.
Q: Do you make anything besides earrings?
A: Yes. Beyond earrings, the line includes ornaments, vinyl scrap magnets, and 45 sleeve pins, with a greeting card and postcard line currently in development. For custom fine jewelry, vinyl record inlay can also be set into platinum, gold, or silver pieces.
Q: Can I request a specific label, color, artist, or rarity?
A: Yes. Custom requests are welcome, including specific labels, colors, artists, or rare pressings. These may carry an upcharge depending on the request. For stores, custom color stories can also be created to match your shop's aesthetic or a seasonal collection.
Q: Can a customer request custom or bulk orders through my store, like for a wedding, bridal party, baby shower, or milestone birthday?
A: Yes. For special occasions like these, customers can request custom or multi pair orders through your store. Reach out and we'll work out the details together.
Q: Does the 10 pair minimum need to be one style, or can I mix styles?
A: Mix and match freely. Your 10 pair minimum, and any reorder, can be any combination of styles, shapes, or colors.
Q: How do I reorder once I'm an approved stockist?
A: Once approved, log into your stockist account anytime to place a reorder. No re-approval needed. Reorders follow the same 10 pair minimum as your opening order.
Q: Are lead times longer during busy seasons?
A: Made-to-order pieces may take longer than the standard 5 to 7 business days during high volume periods like the holidays. I'll always communicate current lead times if a delay is expected.
Q: What happens if a piece arrives damaged or broken in shipping?
A: Reach out within 7 days of delivery and I'll make it right. That's separate from the expected authentic wear, like scuffs or patina, that comes with upcycled vinyl.
Q: Where do the records come from, and will you cut into one that's not damaged?
A: I've collected damaged 45s and LPs for over 14 years, plus donated unplayable vinyl. Nothing here comes from a record that could still be played or sold whole. The only exception is if a customer supplies their own record for a custom cut. That's their call on their own property.
Q: Why upcycle vinyl instead of using new materials?
A: I was raised by an amateur record collector, my dad, who taught me how to handle albums, keep them clean, and respect vinyl from the time I was a little kid. That's part of why it means so much to me to give damaged records a new life. Millions of discarded records sit in landfills for centuries since most facilities can't recycle the PVC, so upcycling keeps that material out of the waste stream. Every piece is hand-cut and hand-filed. No lasers, no 3D printing. The craft stays in human hands.
Q: Why did you start making these?
A: I'd been a jeweler for years, but the 2008 recession dried up the luxury market. One afternoon I came across an old broken vinyl record, put a saw blade through it, and felt like an artist again. That moment turned into reVinyled.
